Good picture quality too, much better than with the older version of this software that I was using previously.It’s an all-in-one, premium multimedia app that allows you to get the most out of your viewing experience. Sure enough, with version 18, these issues are resolved, and I can now play the DVDs that didn't work with version 12.Īdmittedly, I don't own anything on Blu-Ray (yet), I'm still a bit old school with my DVD collection, but I wanted the Blu-Ray playback capability regardless since I have a Blu-Ray writer in my new PC, so this is ultimately why I chose to go with the "Ultra" version of this software. At that point, I figured the only thing it can be is the highly outdated version of PowerDVD that I was using. I tried swapping the DVD drive from my old PC to my current build, but this didn't make a difference, same issues with the same DVDs.
Yet these same DVDs played perfectly fine on a PS4. However, I began running into issues with select DVDs that basically caused powerdvd.exe to stop working, the software would give me an error message/bug submission dialog box and simply wouldn't play the discs. I always figured "Bah, good enough" when I felt like watching a movie.

Overall Review: I've been using an ancient version of PowerDVD 12 that I had received for free with the purchase of some PC hardware at one point or another. Then, when I finally figured I'd break down and make the purchase due to issues I was experiencing with an older version of this software (see other thoughts), Newegg just happened to offer a checkout coupon code for 60% off and I was able to pick up this software for a MUCH more affordable price. I've been keeping my eye on this software for a little while now, but the price has always made me balk, seems a bit steep for playback software. Software activation/registration was a breeze. These features can be disabled if you're not interested in using them. There are video/color enhancements as well, just haven't had the chance to mess with them too much, or really felt the need so far. Software contains some interesting audio enhancements, I'm still tinkering with it, not sure what to think about it yet. Seems to be pretty solid playback software, though I haven't tried a Blu-Ray disc yet. Pros: Just received within the last few days, got it installed yesterday.
